About BAPTI
The Bay Area Psychotherapy Training Institute (BAPTI) is a non-profit public benefit corporation that was founded in 1993. The institute was established to accomplish two major objectives: to train post-masters and doctoral level interns in clinical psychology and to provide high quality mental health services at affordable rates to the community. BAPTI also provides a vast array of educational programs to the community. Our staff has a rich diversity of expertise and gives workshops and presentation to parent groups, school personnel, law enforcement, medical professionals, religious groups and the general public.

Hours:
BAPTI is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 9:00pm with Saturday appointments available.

Fees:
We offer a sliding scale fee based on the client’s ability to pay with a maximum fee of $80.00 per session. We also accept Victims of Crime payments. BAPTI now also accepts MediCal payment for Contra Costa County.

Interns
Services are provided by psychology interns supervised by licensed clinicians. The interns have substantial experience prior to coming to BAPTI.

Alice Farmer, M.A., Counseling Psychology, has worked with adults and adolescents to help them clarify their goals and achieve rewarding changes in their relationships and day-to-day lives. She has served clients coping with PTSD, anxiety, depression, past violence, trauma, grief, identity issues, and surviving transitions such as adolescence, midlife, divorce, aging. She has worked with clients to help them recognize patterns and beliefs that serve as roadblocks, and turn them into opportunities for significant and satisfying change. Her prior work includes teaching, facilitating change management in corporations, and coaching managers in interpersonal and communications styles, leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution.

Ben Jones, M.A., focuses on helping clients find the roots of their suffering, face their fears, gain courage, and attain their goals. In addition, as a transpersonal therapist he also encourages clients to strengthen what they find most meaningful in their lives, whether this is music, nature walks, service to others, spirituality, religion or any other meaningful activity. Ben focuses on creating a safe, trusting environment in which the client and the therapist together set goals and choose techniques to achieve them. He works with people suffering from widespread problems such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, family-of-origin problems, abuse, etc., and has special interest and experience working with depression, feelings of meaninglessness, adult initiation, and men's issues. He is experienced in facilitating therapy groups and believes that they can be very effective for many of these issues. He has an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from John F Kennedy University, specializing in Transpersonal Counseling.

Anne Mabee, M.A. believes that in psychotherapy, the client and the therapist form a unique relationship in which it is safe to talk about who you are and how you experience the world around you. Anne assists clients in resolving confusion, clarifying authentic goals and moving forward with choices. Her work with adolescents, adults, partners and families includes processing loss and grief, overcoming anxiety and depression, making life transitions easier, diminishing fear, shame and guilt, building self-esteem and self-worth, addressing boundary issues, increasing self-acceptance, improving career and work performance, reducing stress, unraveling relationship problems, working through codependency issues, exploring dreams and creative expression, and the deepening of spiritual practices. Anne is trained and skilled in crisis management and suicide prevention. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at John F. Kennedy University. She is pursuing a doctorate in Depth Psychology.

Cynthia Mansur, M.A. earned a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from JFK University. She is trained in a holistic approach, which integrates non-traditional and established psychological practices. Cynthia works with individuals, couples, families, and adolescents on issues such as self-esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, work-related problems, relational difficulties, and living with chronic illness. She empowers clients to deal effectively with the challenges they face.

Caroline McDowell, M.A. earned her graduate degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. She enjoys working with individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children. Her clinical experience includes, but is not limited to, helping clients with issues such as depression, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, blended family adjustments, co-parenting, eating disorders, trauma, relationship and communication challenges, and addictions. Caroline enjoys working relationally and collaboratively with clients to explore and clarify the client’s life challenges, devise more effective strategies for coping with them, and create new possibilities for personal growth.

Michele Spitulnik, M.A. Counseling Psychology and Ph.D. in Education, works with children, adults, couples and families, to create more satisfying lives and relationships. Michele helps her clients navigate the stressful worlds of work, home, and school by focusing on issues such as parenting, life transitions, balancing family, career and community demands, grief and loss, self-esteem and confidence, depression, anxiety, and by fostering better communication. Michele's 16+ years of experience in the field of education were devoted to students, teachers, and parents, building engaging, dynamic, and effective learning environments. Michele provides a warm, supportive and reflective atmosphere with clients.

Josh Wilson received his Masters Degree from John F. Kennedy University. He has experience working in a variety of settings which include; schools, agencies, therapeutic camps, group work, and private practice. He has successfully worked with children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. Josh believes that the foundation to successful therapy is safety, trust, and confidentiality. By working together in a collaborative effort to create change and enhance ones life, you will leave feeling more empowered, aware of your emotions, and knowing that change is possible.
